About Osmanthus
In China, there are four types of osmanthus.
1. Golden Osmanthus (金桂)
2. Silver Osmanthus (银桂)
3. Sweet Osmanthus (丹桂)
4. Four Seasons Osmanthus (四季桂) Golden Osmanthus has a strong fragrance, while Sweet Osmanthus is known for its sweet aroma.
Located in the Wuyi Mountains, the region of Minbei is most commonly associated with Silver Osmanthus (also known as August Osmanthus), which blooms in the lunar month of August. Its scent is subtle and elegant, distinct from the rich aroma of Golden Osmanthus and the sweetness of Sweet Osmanthus.
We select old trees of Golden Osmanthus that grow at elevations above 1,000 meters; they bloom only once a year. When they bloom, their fragrance is overwhelming, but the blooming period is extremely short—only three days before the flowers begin to wilt.
About Taiwanese Oolong
When discussing the most representative tea of Taiwan, Oolong tea certainly stands out, and we are well acquainted with it. We collaborate with a tea master from Taiwan with thirty years of experience, and he meticulously crafts each batch of Oolong tea used for scenting.
Using traditional Oolong tea-making techniques, every tea is produced to perfection, avoiding excessive roasting and unpleasant grassy flavors. For this Osmanthus Oolong, we have chosen Taiwan’s Jin Xuan Oolong, and to ensure the tea leaves can fully absorb the floral aroma, we have minimized the presence of leaf stems.
The Wonderful Fusion of Flowers and Tea
Every August, a delightful rendezvous between flowers and tea takes place in the deep mountains of Minbei. The process involves harvesting, plucking, scenting, removing dried flowers, re-scenting, drying, and finally adding dried flowers back in—a complex series of steps that require meticulous manual work.
Just like no two leaves are identical, osmanthus flowers are the same. We select osmanthus flowers from trees that are over fifty years old to ensure premium quality. While maintaining quality, each year's flavor has subtle differences, representing the uniqueness of that year's Osmanthus Oolong. Since fresh flowers wilt quickly, capturing their essence in the tea is a way to express love for nature and preserve the beauty of delightful things.
